Open your Rectangular Marquee Tool and drag a selection from the top, left corner to the lower, right corner of the document's guide lines. Photoshop: How to Change the Material of Objects

Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV.I'm going to show you how to transform the material of a statue or other object. This effect works best on objects that are made from one material.Open a photo you'd like to use. If you'd like to use this image, its link is located in the video's description of project files. The first step is to makea selection around the subject, so we can ultimately cut and copy it to its own layer. There are many ways to make selections and covered them in most of of tutorials. Forthis example, I'll use the Quick Selection Tool. If you're using this tool as well, dragyour cursor over your subject to make a selection around its shape. To remove areas of the selection, press and hold Alt on Windows or Option on a Mac as you drag over those areas. When you're done, press "Q" to make it into a quick mask. If you notice areas that you want tocorrect or finesse, you can use your Pencil Tool. To decrease the size of your pencil, press the left bracket key on your keyboard. Then draw over those areas. When you're done, press "Q" to revert it back into a selection. Press Ctrl or Cmd + J to cut and copy thesubject onto its own layer. Remove all its color by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + Shift + U.Make a copy of the layer and hide it by clicking off the eyeball next to it. Click the thumbnail of the middle layer to make it active. We'll use this layer to create a displacement map, which will warp the new material to conform itself to the contours of your subject. Makea new layer below it by Ctrl-clicking or Cmd-clicking on the New Layer icon. We'll fill it with white. First, check to see if your foreground and background colors are black and white, respectively. If they aren't, press "D" on your keyboard. Since white is your background color, press Ctrl or Cmd + Delete to fill the empty layer with the background color.Make Layer 1 active and go to Filter, Noise and Median. I'll make the Radius: 5 pixels, however, if you're using a different photo, you may want to adjust this amount dependingon your photo's size and resolution. Use an amount that removes the fine details, butretains the sharpness of the subject's general shadows and mid-tones. Since displacementmaps work best when their slightly blurred, go to Filter, Blur and Gaussian Blur. I'll blur it 2 pixels, but again, you may want to adjust this amount. Merge these 2 layers by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + E. Click the icon at the upper, right of the Layers paneland click "Duplicate Layer". Click "New" and type in "Displacement". Then, click OK or press enter or Return. Go to File and "Save As". Save it to your Desktop as a PSD file. Then, click "Save".If you see this window, click OK. Click the tab of your original file to open it. Since we duplicated and saved this layer, we can trash it from the Layers panel.Make the top layer visible and active.Open a texture you'd like to use to wrap around your subject. If you'd like to use the one I'm using, I provided its link, as well. Youcan find many textures at www.cgtextures.com. To get it into your other document, press"v" to open your Move Tool and drag it up onto your subject's tab. Without releasingyour mouse or pen, press and hold Shift as you drag it down onto your image and release.Pressing Shift kept the texture centered over your subject. To resize your texture, openthe Transform Tool by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + T. To see the Transform's entire boundingbox, press Ctrl or Cmd + 0. Go to a corner and when you see a diagonal, double-arrow,press and hold Alt or Option + Shift as you drag it in or out. Then, press Enter or Return. We need to crop the texture in order for it to be sized correctly to the displacementmap. To do this, press Ctrl or Cmd + A to select your document and go to Image and Crop.To deselect it, press Ctrl or Cmd + D. To fit your document back onto your canvas, press Ctrl or Cmd + 0. Go to Filter, Distort and Displace. I'll displace the Horizontal and Vertical Scales: 40 pixels each,"Stretch to Fit" and "Repeat Edge Pixels". Click "Displacement" and click "Open". The texture immediately warped based on the tonal values of the displacement map that you saved earlier. Ctrl-click or Cmd-click on the thumbnail of your subjectto make a selection of its shape. Your texture should still be active. Click the Layer Maskicon to make a layer mask of the selection next to the texture. Click the texture tomake it active again and change its Blend Mode to Overlay. To adjust its brightness and contrast, click the Adjustment Layer icon and click, "Levels". Click the Clipping Mask iconto clip or restrict the adjustment layer to effect just the one layer beneath it inthe layers panel, which in this case, is the wood texture. Slide the input black level to the right, until the darkest areas of your texture look good to you. I like 70 for the amount. Then, slide the Input mid-tones to the right until you're happy with its medium tones.I'll use .60 for the amount. Keep in mind, because each texture has its own characteristics, play with Levels until you're happy with its look. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV.Thanks for watching!

Photoshop: Create a Gold-leaf Logo on Frosted Glass

Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. I'm going to show you how to transform a logoor text into gold leaf and stencil it on frosted glass. You can use any image you want for your background, however, if you'd like to use this one, I provided its link in the video's description or project files. The first step is convert your background into a Smart Object,so we can modify it non-destructively with Smart Filters or even replace it with anotherbackground without having to redo any of the filters that we'll be adding to it. To do this, click the icon at the upper, right of the Layers panel and click "Convert to SmartObject". You know a layer is a Smart Object when you see this icon at the lower right, corner of its thumbnail. Go to Filter and Filter Gallery. Open the "Distort" folder, click "Glass" and choose "Frosted". I'll make the Distortion: 3 and the Smoothness: 1, however,if you're using a different image, you may want to adjust these amounts depending onyour image's size and resolution. I'd like to soften it a little, so I'll go to Filter, Blur and Gaussian Blur. Blur it 20 pixels and click OK. At this point, your image will look too soft, so we'll reduce the blur's opacity by double-clicking on the icon next to Gaussian Blur. The Blending Options window will appear. Reduce the blur's opacity to 50% and click OK.Next, we'll create a gold-leaf texture that we'll apply to your logo, symbol or text.Click the New Layer icon to make a new layer. If your foreground and background colors aren't black and white respectively, press "D" on your keyboard. Click the background colorand type in: 8 7 6 8 1 E. Then, click OK.Notice, your background color is the the color you just typed in. Go to Filter, Render and Clouds. Go back to Filter and Filter Gallery. The same glass filter and settings that you used earlier will open. Click OK to applyit to the "Clouds" texture. Let's brighten it a bit. Click the Adjustment layer iconand click Brightness/Contrast. Click the Clipping Mask icon, which makes the Adjustment layerclip or restrict itself to effect just the one layer beneath it in the Layers panel. If we didn't clip it, the Adjustment layer would effect all the layers below it. Increase the Brightness: 40%. Open a black & white graphic you'd like to make into gold-leaf.You can also use text if you like. If you do use text, make its color white. If yourgraphic is black on a white background, we need to invert it. To do this, press Ctrl or Cmd + I. Go to Select and Color Range. Choose "Highlights" and click OK.This makes a selection of its shape.Press Ctrl or Cmd + J to cut and copy the shape onto its own layer. Drag it onto the tab of your document and without releasing your mouseor pen, drag it down onto the image and release. To center it, press Ctrl or Cmd + A to select it alland click the "Align Horizontal Centers" icon and the "Align Vertical Centers" icon.To deselect it, press Ctrl or Cmd + D.To resize it, open your Transform Tool by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + T. Go to a corner and when you see a diagonal, double-arrow, press and holdAlt or Option + Shift as you drag it out or in. If you want to slide it up or down, pressthe Up or Down arrow key on your keyboard. Then, press Enter or Return. Change its Blend Mode to Overlay. Ctrl-click or Cmd-click on the thumbnail of the logo or text to makea selection of its shape. Click the thumbnail of the texture to make it active and clickthe Layer Mask icon to make a layer mask of the selection next to the texture. To bring more attention to your logo or text, we'll add an outer glow to it. Double-click on its thumbnail, which makes the layer active and opens its Layer Style window. Click "Outer Glow". Change its Blend Mode to "Linear Dodge" and its Opacity between 25 to 30%. Make the Noise approximately 35% and the Size: 185 pixels. Then, click OK. I want to lighten the shadow reflections on the gold leaf, but keep the highlights and mid-tones, as is..To do this, first, make a composite snapshot of your image by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Alt+ E on Windows or Cmd + Shift + Option + E on a Mac. Ctrl-click or Cmd-click on the thumbnail of your logo or textto make a selection of its shape. Click the Layer mask icon to makea layer mask of the selection next to the composite snapshot. Make the composite snapshot active and go to Image, Adjustments and Shadows/Highlights.Slide the Shadow Amount to 100% and click OK.Repeat these steps three or four times to increasingly lighten the shadows. Photoshop: How to Create Techno-inspired, Symbols & Logos

Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. I'm going to show you how to quickly transformsimple, black and white graphics into techno-inspired, logo-like shapes. I'll also show you how to add color. Open a simple, black and white graphic you'd like to use. Clip art generallyworks well for this purpose. If your foreground and background colors aren't black and whiterespectively, press "D" on your keyboard. Click the New Layer icon to make a new layer. We'll fill it with white and since white is your background color, press Ctrl + Deleteon Windows or Cmd + Delete on a Mac. Make a copy of it by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + J.Click the Adjustment layer icon and click Pattern. Open the pattern thumbnails. If you don't see this one, click the gear icon and click "Reset Patterns". Click OK to resetit with the default patterns. Click this icon, which is called, "Vertical Line 1". For the Scale percentage, type in 750 and click OK.Go to Select and Color Range. Choose Shadows and click OK. Click off the eyeball next to the Pattern to hide it and click the thumbnailof the layer below it to make it active. We'll fill the selection with black and since blackis the foreground color, press Alt or Option + Delete. To deselect it, press Ctrl or Cmd + D.Hide this layer and the layer below it.Go back to Select and Color Range. Click OK.The shape of your graphic is now a selection. Make these 2 layers visible and click the Layer Mask icon to make a layer mask of the selection next to the grid.Next, we'll make a composite snapshot of your image by pressing Ctrl + Shift +Alt + E on Windowsor Cmd +Shift Option + E on a Mac.Go to Filter, Other and Minimum. Make the Radius: 6 pixelsand the Preserve: Roundness. Then, click OK.The general shape looks good, but if you look closely at the grid, the ends on many of them are a bit ragged or asymmetrical. To addressthis, we'll create a custom brush that we'll use to correct it. Press Ctrl or Cmd + Z to undo your last step. Go to File and New. Make the Width and Height 20 pixels each and the Resolution: 72 pixels per inch. Press Alt or Option + Delete to fill it with black.Open your Pencil Tool and go to Edit and "Define Brush Preset". We'll use the default brushname. Open back up your document and open your Brush picker. The last thumbnail in the panel will be the square shape we saved as a brush. Press Enter or Return and press "x"on your keyboard to invert your foreground and background colors. Now, white is the color of your custom brush. Press "z" to open your Zoom Tool and zoom into the grid. Press "B" to open your custom brushand click the ends that look a bit ragged or asymmetrical. To move your image on the canvas, press and hold the Space bar and drag your image. As soonas you release the Space bar, your cursor reverts back to your custom brush. Continueuntil all the ends of the lines are squared off. To fit it back onto your canvas, press Ctrl or Cmd + 0. To repeat the last filter you used, press Ctrl or Cmd + F. All of the lines of your grid should now look symmetrical. If there are any that aren't, undo the filterand use your custom brush to square off any remaining ragged edges that you may have overlooked. Then, repeat the filter. Next, I'll show you how to quickly make your lines in color. Click the Adjustment layer icon and click: "Gradient".Open the Gradient Picker. I'll choose thespectrum gradient, however, you can experiment with any of them. I'll make the Style: "Linear"and the Angle: 0 degrees. For now, I'll leave the Scale at 100%. Change the Blend Mode to Screen. Notice the red colors on the end of the Spectrum aren't visible. This is becausethe gradient goes from one side of your document to the other side. To include the entire spectrumgradient inside your shape, we need to reduce the scale of the gradient. To do this, double-clickon the gradient thumbnail to open the Gradient Fill and highlight the Scale amount. Pressthe Down arrow on your keyboard until all the colors are visible. To see it over a black background, change the Blend Mode to Multiplyand make the layer directly under the gradient, active. Invert it by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + I. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV.Thanks for watching!

Photoshop: How to Make a Sleek, Shiny Pill from Scratch!

Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. I'm going to show you how to create this sleek, shiny pill from scratch. This is an update of a tutorial I did on an earlier version of Photoshop. Create a new document by going to File and New. For this example, make itsWidth: 1550 pixels, its Height: 870 pixels and its Resolution 150 pixels per inch. TheColor Mode is RGB at 8 bits per channel. Then, click OK. Go to View and make sure and Snap are checked. If they're aren't, just click on them. Go to the ruler at the topand drag out a guide line to the center of your document. It'll snap in place becausewe have snap checked. If you don't see it, press Ctrl or Cmd + H. Go to the ruler onthe left and drag out another guide line to the center. Click the New Layer icon to make a new layer. In this layer, we'll make the shape of the pill. Open your Rounded Rectangle Tool. If your foreground and background colors aren't black and white respectively, press"D" on your keyboard. Click "Pixels". If your version is CS5 or earlier, the "Pixel" icon is here. For its Radius, type in 200 pixels. Click the gear icon and tick "Unconstrained"and check "From Center". Go to the center of your guide lines and drag out your pill shape. Double-click on an empty area of the pill's layer to open its Layer Style window.Click "Gradient Overlay". Then, close the window.Make the Size: 8 pixels. The Position is Outside and the Blend Mode is Normal.Click Inner Glow. Make the Blend Mode: Normal, theOpacity: 40% and the Size: 35 pixels. Then, click OK. Next, we'll add text onto the pill.Open your Horizontal Type Tool and press "x" on your keyboard to invert your foregroundand background colors. For my font, I'll use Arial Black, however, you can use whateveryou like. I'll make its size: 125 points, Smooth and "Center Text". Click on your documentand type your text. To center it over your pill, click your Move Tool, and press Ctrlor Cmd + A. Click the "Align Horizontal Centers" icon and the "Align Vertical Centers" icon.To deselect it, press Ctrl or Cmd + D. Next, we'll warp the text to simulate it wrappingaround the contour of the pill. To do this, press "T" to open your Type Tool and clickthe "Warp Text" icon. Click "Bulge" and tick "Vertical". Play with the "Bend" percentage until your textis approximating the perspective distortion that it would have. Generally, the longer your text is, the higher the Bend percentage should be. For this example, Ityped in a bend of 20%. Then, click OK. Change its Blend Mode to "Overlay". Click the New Layer icon to make a new layer. In this layer, we'll create the highlight on the pill. Open your "Rounded Rectangle Tool". Click the gear icon and uncheck "From Center". Place your cursor at the top point where your pill is starting to curve around and drag your toolacross approximating this shape. To center it over the top of your pill, press "v" onyour keyboard to open your Move Tool, press Ctrl or Cmd + A and click the "Align Horizontal Centers" icon. Then, deselect it.Let's rename the layer, "Highlight". Double-click on thethumbnail to open its Layer Style window.Check, "Blend Interior Effects as Group".Activating this advanced blending option will give us the effect that we want. For Brightness, type in 25%. Then, close all the windows.Change the Blend Mode to Screen and reduce its opacity to 90%. Let's see what the highlight would like if we didn't check the"Blend InteriorEffects as Group" feature. As I toggle back and forth, you can see the difference. Next, we'll split the pill into two halvesand make the right half a bit smaller. Scroll to the bottom of the Layers paneland hide the Background layer. Scroll back up and make a composite snapshot of your pillby pressing Ctrl +Shift + Alt + E on Windows or Cmd + Shift +Option+ E on a Mac.Alt-click or Option-click on the eyeball next to the composite snapshotto hide all the other layers. Make the white background visible.Make the pill layer active and Ctrl-click or Cmd-click on the thumbnailto make a selection of its shape. Open your Rectangular Marquee Tool.Press and hold or Option + Shiftas you drag a selection over the left half of your pill snapping itto the vertical guide line. Now, we have a selection of just the left half of your pill.Press Ctrl or Cmd + J to cut and copy the left half of your pill onto its own layer.Make the full pill active and again, Ctrl-click or Cmd-click on it to make a selection ofits shape. As before, press and hold Alt or Option + Shift as you drag a selection overthe right half of your pill, which makes a selection of just the right half. Press Ctrl or Cmd + J to cut and copy it onto its own layer. Now that we have the two halves ofthe pill, we can trash the composite snapshot. We don't need to see the guide lines anymore,so let's hide them by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + H. We're going to make the right half ofthe pill a bit smaller. To do this, open your Transform Tool by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + T.At the top, you'll see percentages for the Width and Height. If we click on the chainlink, whatever we type in one, will be copied into the other. Go to either the Width orthe Height and type in 99%. Notice, they're both the same because the chain link is active.Press Enter or Return to accept the Transform. To move the right half of the pill to the left half, press "v" to open your Move Tool and press the left arrow on your keyboarduntil the gap disappears. Next, we'll create the shadow. Ctrl-click or Cmd-click on the thumbnail of the right half to make a selection of its shape. Open your Rectangular Marquee Tool, press and hold Alt or Option, as you drag over the right half of your pill justa little to the right of the other selection. Then, release your cursor. You should nowsee just a sliver of the selection. The shadow will be inside this area. Open Levels by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + L.For the Input midtones, type in point 65 and close the window. Then, deselect it.Next, we'll add the reflection. First, let's merge the two halves into one layer. To do this, Shift-click on the top layer to highlight it and press Ctrl or Cmd + E. Makea copy of it and make the lower pill active. Reduce its opacity to 50%. Go to Edit, Transform and "Flip Vertical". Press "v" to open your Move Tool and press and hold "Shift" as youdrag the reflection below the solid pill.We need to close to gap between the shadow and the pill only on the left half. To move the reflection up one pixel at a time, pressthe Up arrow key on your keyboard. There should remain a gap on the right half between thepill and its reflection. Next, we'll make the reflection gradually fade into the background.Click the Layer mask icon to make a layer mask next to the shadow. Open your Gradient Tool. Makesure the Linear Gradient icon is highlighted and the gradient bar is black to white. Placeyour cursor a little below halfway down the shadow and press and hold Shift as you dragup the gradient line to the bottom of the pill. Then, release. Lastly, I'll show youhow to quickly give it color. Make the top layer active and click the Adjustment layericon. Click Hue / Saturation. Check "Colorize" and slide the Saturation a bit to the rightto intensify the color. Then, slide the Hue to a color you like. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. Thanks for watching!

Drawing Process: Koujaku x Noiz "Languor" - FINAL

Hello and welcome to the final part of this series of recordingsIf you're new, there's a playlist link in the description where you can watch the whole series in order. If you've been following me for a while, thank you for sticking around to watch me flail about in Photoshop xDI gave Koujaku fairly slim fingers hereI kind of like the contrast of delicate-looking hands carrying scars from a violent past, and are still capable of violent action.Mistake here: he shouldn't have a scar on this joint.I removed it after the recording session was over and I did the last-minute checks.Another mistake: his thumb should not be that high up.That moment of realisation...Lasso tool + moving the selection + redrawing fixed that error right quick :DThe advantage of digital medium: able to make such corrections fairly easily. If I had been drawing this with ink on bristol board like I traditionally would have done, I would be CRYING xDA trick with cloth: don't use curving lines ALL the timeWhile that would work very well for delicate, flimsy fabrics, it'll only make most other fabrics look...well, delicate and flimsyNot necessarily a good look for stuff like thick, luxurious bedsheets, or curtains, or even jeansAt this point I decided that Koujaku's hand looked a bit strange, and corrected it.Using Liquify, and a brush at low opacity, I can "push" the lines to a shape that I find more pleasing. Better now :D You can tell that I haven't quite decided how to construct this particular bit of hair xDSometimes, personally, I find it's best to just go "freestyle"Placing lines down without sketches forces me to make a decision about how they would lookIf I had tried sketching this bit out, I would have been just drawing and erasing and drawing and erasing, over and over again.Deleting the sketch layers since they've served their purpose and are no longer neededThis is a stylistic choice, but what I like to do is to thicken the outlines of "major" silhouettes/shapes of a line drawing, like the hair mass and outer body linesThis gives my line drawings a very graphical look, almost like a Mucha's Art Nouveau prints. The thicker borders also nicely separate the elements in my drawings, so when you look at it from a distanceyou can tell which bit is the figure, which bit of the figure is the hair, the clothes...so on and so forth.A useful thing for internet display, since a strong thumbnail will entice views to click for a closer look.At this point I'm just doing minor adjustments to strengthen the impact of certain bits of the image.Zooming out to check everything looks right from afar. And now for the final enhancements...Duplicate the lineart layer.....put a fine Gaussian Blur filter on the duplicate......lower the opacity......done correctly, it mimics ink "bleeding" into the fibres of the canvas. It softens what would have otherwise been the fairly harsh, clean edges of a digital line drawing.I also decided to use a layer mask to blur away the outside edges. The darker lines in the centre draws the eye in, towards where I want your gaze to be focused on.In this case, that would be the peaceful faces of our two lovers.

Photoshop: Sand Text Effect! How to Write a Message on the Beach

Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. I'm going to show you a quick and effectivetechnique to write a word or message into fine, pristine, beach sand from scratch. This tutorial is an update to one I did on an earlier version of Photoshop. Create a new document by pressing Ctrl + N on Windows or Cmd + N on a Mac. You can make the Width and Heightany size you want, but to ensure that your result will be the same as in this video, make its resolution: 150 pixels per inch. Also make sure the Color Mode is RGB and 8bits per channel. Then, click OK or press Enter or Return. Click the foreground color and type in F0E2AF. Then, click OK or press Enter or Return. To fill your document with the foreground color, press Alt + Delete on Windows or Option + Delete on a Mac. We'll add a sandy texture to it by going to Filter, Noise and Add Noise. Make the amount 3%, Gaussianand check Monochromatic. Then, click OK or press Enter or Return. Open your Horizontal Type Tool, choose "Smooth and "Center Text". Go to Window and Character. The Characterpanel will open. I'm choosing "MV Boli Regular" , which is a medium to heavy, san-seriffont that looks like it was hand-lettered. If you'd like to use it as well, I providedit link in the video's description or project files. For this example, I'll make its size110 points. For the color, just press "x" on your keyboard to invert the foregroundand background colors. Click on your document and type your text. If you have two or more lines of text and need to separate the lines,double-click on the large "T" to highlightall of your text and go to the "Leading" icon. Drag it to the right to separate the lines. To reposition your block of text, open your Move Tool and move it. We can close the Character panel now. Ctrl-click or Cmd-click on the large "T" to make a selection of your text.Go to Select, Modify and Feather. Feather it 1 pixel and click OK or press Enter or Return.Click the thumbnail of the Background to make it active and press Ctrl or Cmd +J to cut and copy the shape of your text to its own layer. Name it "Outer". This layerwill be the raised, outer part of our sand text. Click off the eyeball next to the original, source text to hide the layer. Click the "fx" icon and click "Bevel Emboss". Make the Blend Mode: "Pillow Emboss", the Technique: Chisel Hard and the Direction: Down. I'll make theSize: 30 pixels, however, depending on the size of your font, you may want to adjustthis amount. Soften it 7 pixels. Change the Highlight mode to Linear Dodge and the Opacityto 12%. Change the Shadow mode to Linear Burn and the Opacity to 40%. Then, click OK. It looks good the way it is, but let's make the inside of the characters more defined. Makea copy of the "Outer" layer by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + J. Let's name it "Inner". Double-clickBevel and Emboss to open it in the Layer Style window. Change the Style to "Inner Bevel",the Technique to "Smooth" and make the Depth: 235%. I'll make the Size: 10 pixels, but again, adjust this amount if your text is larger or smaller. Make the Highlight's opacity:0% and the Shadow's opacity: 30%. Then, click OK. Next, I'll show you how to change its perspective. Make a composite snapshot of your image by pressing Ctrl + Shift +Alt +E on Windows or Cmd + Shift + Option + E on a Mac. Open your Transform Tool by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + T. Go to any corner and when you see a diagonal, double-arrow, press andhold Alt or Option + Shift as you drag it in to make it smaller. To adjust its perspective,go to Edit, Transform and Perspective.Go to a bottom corner and drag it out. If your font is italicized as in this one, it'll look better if we straighten it out. To do this,go to the bottom, middle anchor point and drag it to the rightuntil the characters in the middle are vertical. Then, press Enter or Return. Open your Transform Tool again. To see the Transform'sentire bounding box, press Ctrl or Cmd + 0.Enlarge you image making sure it covers any text under it.Center it and press Enter or Return. Press Ctrl or Cmd + 0 to fit it backon your canvas. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. Thanks for watching!

Photoshop: How to Make an Old West, WANTED Poster

Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. I'm going to show you how to create your ownvintage, Wanted poster from the "wild west". This tutorial is an update to one I did onan earlier version of Photoshop. I provided this template, so you can follow along. Itslink is located in the video description or project files. It includes a weathered, woodplank background...the base for our poster...distressed, paper texture...four, antique nail heads...ornamentalborders and a cartouche. In addition, I provided links to the fonts that I'll be using inthis video. To make the white disappear that surrounds the cartouche, change the BlendMode to Multiply. Reduce its opacity to 80%. Make the "Borders" layer active and reduceits opacity also to 80%. Make the "Nail head" layer active. Click the "fx" icon and click Bevel Emboss. The Style is InnerBevel, the Technique: Smooth and the Depth is 100%. The Direction is Up and the Sizeis 2 pixels. Uncheck Global Light, make the Angle minus 40 degrees and keep the Angle:30 degrees. Make the Highlight Mode: Linear Dodge and the Opacity: 30%. Make the Shadow'sopacity: 0. Click Drop Shadow. Change the Blend Mode to Linear Burn and its Opacity:40%. Make sure "Global Light" is checked and make the Angle: 135 degrees. Make the Distance:3 pixels and the Size: 5 pixels. Then, click OK. Make the paper texture active, changeits Blend Mode to Multiply and reduce its opacity to 85%. Make the Base layer activeand double-click an empty area of the layer to open its Layer Style window. Click Bevel& Emboss. Make the Size: 3 pixels and the Highlight opacity: 50%. Change the Shadow'sblend mode to Linear Burn and its opacity to 50%, as well. Click Inner Glow. Click the colorbox and pick Black. Then, click OK. Change the Blend Mode to Color Burn and its Opacityto 60%. Make the Noise: 20% and the Size: 68 pixels. Then, click OK. Next, we'll add the photo. To save space in the Layers panel, click the small, black triangles next to the"fx" icons to collapse the effects. The effects are still there; they're just hidden fromview. Make the Cartouche layer active. Above this layer, we'll place our photo. First, open your Rectangular Marquee Tool and drag a rectangular selection centered between theborders. Open a photo you'd like to place into your Wanted poster. I downloaded thisone from Shutterstock.com. To get it into your Wanted poster, press "v" to open yourMove Tool and drag it up onto the tab of the poster. Without releasing your computer mouseor pen, drag it down onto the image and release.Click the Layer Mask icon to make a layer mask of the selection next to your photo.Think of the layer mask as a stencil. Thewhite area reveals the image, while the black masks it out. To reposition and resize yourphoto, click off the chain link between the photo and the layer mask. Now, we can repositionor resize either the photo or the layer mask independently of each other. Since we wantto reposition the photo, make the photo active. Drag it to a position you like. If you wantto resize it, press Ctrl or Cmd + T to open your Transform Tool. Go to a corner and whenyou see a diagonal, double-arrow, press and hold Alt or Option + Shift as you drag itin or out. Position the face, then press Enteror Return. Next, we'll colorize it, add grain and adjust its brightness and contrast.. Double-click the thumbnail of your photo to open its LayerStyle window. Click Color Overlay and the color box. Type in D7BF96. Then, click OK.Change the Blend Mode to Color and click OK.Go to Filter and Filter Gallery. Open the Texture folder and click Grain. Make the Grain Type: "Enlarged". I'm using 25 for the Intensityand 50 for the Contrast, however, depending on the characteristics of your photo, youmay want to adjust theses amounts until your photo looks similar to this. Then, click OK.If there are areas of your photo that are brighter than the paper, we need to darkenthem. Click the Adjustment Layer icon and click Levels. Click the Clipping Mask iconto clip or restrict the Levels adjustment layer to effect just the one layer beneathit in the Layers panel. For this photo, I'll brighten the Input Midtones to 1.48.Keep in mind, for your photo, you may want to use different amounts to get the combination ofbrightness and contrast that looks good to you. I'll darken the Output highlights untilthe brightest areas of the photo match the brightness of the paper. To make the blackareas a bit less dense, I'll drag the Output Shadows a bit to the right. To consolidate more space in the Layers panel, group the face and its adjustment layer into a folder. To do this, Shift-click on the thumbnail of the face to highlight both layers. Then, pressCtrl or Cmd + G. Let's name it "Face". Group the paper texture and the base into a folderusing the same steps and name it "Paper". Make the Face folder active to place our textabove it. Open your Horizontal Type Tool and go to Window and Character. The Characterpanel will open. For the word "Wanted", I'll use "Regulators Condensed". If you want touse the same fonts as I'm using, open it and click on the font. Make the size: 70 pointsand make sure its Horizontal & Vertical Scales are 100%. Click on your document and type"Wanted". To reposition it, open your Move Tool and move it. Click below the word and for next text, choose "The Dead Saloon Regular". For the Vertical Scale, type in 48 to squeezethe text vertically and type the word "DEAD". Press the Space bar three times and type theword, "ALIVE". We pressed the Space bar to make room between the two words for the word"OR". To resize it, click the Move Tool and open your Transform Tool. Go to a corner, press and hold Alt or Option + Shift and drag it in until it's approximately the same widthas the word, "Wanted". Then, center it and press Enter or Return. Press "T" to open yourType Tool and click below the cartouche. Type the word, "OR". Click the Move Tool and open your Transform Tool. Go to the middle, right side of your Transform and press andhold Ctrl + Alt + Shift on Windows or Cmd + Option + Shift on a Mac as you drag theTransform up to skew it from its center anchor point. Then, reduce its size and positionit to fit comfortably between the words, "Dead" and "Alive". Open your Type Tool and clickbelow the cartouche. In this area, we'll type in a name. For this example, I'll make theVertical Scale: 100%, the Horizontal Scale: 170 and the Size: 21 points. For your name, play with these amounts to fit your text comfortably. Press Enter or Return and type out your text.Open your Move Tool to center it. Open your Type Tool and click below your photo. In thisarea, we'll type in the reward. For the font, I'll use "Saddlebag Regular". I'll make itsSize: 46 points and its Horizontal Scale: 44%. Press Enter or Return and type out yourtext. As before, open your Move Tool to center it. Let's group all the text into its own folder using the same steps as you used earlier.Let's name the folder, "Text".Reduce the opacity to 90%. Now, all the text that's inside the folder has an opacity of 90%.We can close the Character panel, now. Next, we'll add scratches to the poster. First, let's groupthe text, face, cartouche and borders into one folder, since these are the elements thatwe'll be adding scratches to. Use the same steps as you used earlier. Click the Layer Mask icon to make a layer mask next to the folder. We'll be adding scratches to the layermask, which will reveal the background through the scratches. Open your Brush Tool and openyour brush thumbnails. Click the gear icon to open your list of Brush Presets. I included"Marks and scratches" for you to download into your Brush Preset folder. If your notsure how to install brushes into Photoshop, watch my tutorial showing how to do this. When you see this window, click OK to replace the current set of brushes with Marks andScratches. To make the thumbnails appear bigger, click the gear icon and click, "Large Thumbnail".You can try the various scratches, however, I'll click the first one and make its size1700 pixels. Move your brush over your poster and left-click on your mouse or pen. If youdon't like the position of the scratches, undo it by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + Z. Onceyou've added your scratches, click the Move Tool to make your cursor easier to see.Click off the eyeball of the background to temporarily hide the layer. We'll make a composite snapshotof just your poster by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + E on Windows or Cmd + Shift + Option + E on a Mac. Since we have the composite snapshot, we can hide its source layers. Next,we'll add a drop shadow to the poster. Double-click on an empty area of the poster layer to openits Layer Style window. Click Drop Shadow. Change the Blend Mode to Linear Burn and makethe Opacity: 25%. Make the Distance: 8 pixels and the Size: 10 pixels. Then, click OK.Make the Background visible and open your Transform Tool. Click the "Warp" icon. This divides your Transform into sections that can be manipulated to warp the shape under it. Place your cursor on the middle of the top line and drag it in a little. Repeat this on the middle of the right side, the middle of the left side and middle of the bottom line. Then, press Enter or Return. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. Thanks for watching!

The Align Tool | FREE Photoshop Download

Hello and welcome to our video series on the Gimp. Now in this video, I'm gonna introduceyou to the Align Tool, another one of the Transform Tools we're working with. Basically, just click on this icon. It brings up our options down here on the bottom or a quickshortcut would be just pressing on the letter Q, as in Queen, on your keyboard and thatwill get you here as well. Now, frankly I've never used this Align Tool because it basicallyjust moves object within your image to other parts of your image. I just use the Move Toolso I may sound a little bit rusty in all things alignments and that's basically why. Justa quick introduction here. One thing that we can do is.. Let's make a selection hereusing our Rectangle Tool because we want to align everything somewhere within all thesebox here, what we just selected. Now we go back over here to our Alignment Tool and onour drop-down box, we wanna make this relative to the Selection. Let's go with the yellowbox up here, click on that, and you can see these four dots in all four corners here. And then, come down here and, depending on where you want to align it to, let's say wewant to align it to the corner here, you just click on the "Left Edge of Target". And therewe've moved it to the left edge, straight across. Now, if we want to move it to thetop of what we've selected, click on this and it moves it to the left edge top. Andof course you move to the far right edge, and so on. Now in this box here, we can dothe same thing. Again, this is our selection here, the big box. Click on the blue box hereand now this has the four dots. And again, we can move it over to the far left and wewanna go to the bottom. Now again, myself call me crazy but I will just use the MoveTool and do the same exact thing. So I'm sure that there's reasons behind the use of theAlign Tool. I just haven't figured it out myself but that's a quick introduction tothe Alignment Tool. Hope you learned something. Hope you are able to apply this at some futureendeavor of yours using the Gimp. Thank you very much for watching and have a great day!
