Save With A Transparent Background (Photoshop CC Tutorial)

In this video we'll take a look at how to save your artwork with a transparent background using Photoshop CC. so ideally it's best to create your artwork on layers and create those layers above the background layer. the background layer is typically the bottom-most layer in most compositionsand usually that's filled with a white color like you see herenow if you hide that white color you'll see this checkerboard patternthis checkerboard pattern represents transparency. anywhere you see these checkers, is fully transparentif we were to print this image, nothing would be printed in this checkered areaonly here in the center where there's pixelsif I were to turn this background back on and we were to print this, it would print with a white backgroundso it's very important turn that off. now what do you do if your artwork is already on a white background?well there's a couple things you can do. one is you can double-click next to a layerthat will bring up this menu here. and with this first slider down at the bottom, you can reduce the white triangle. now this will subtractany white that's in your piece. you can see here on the highlight of the apple, it's eating away at thatso this is perhaps not the best way to remove the background from this imageyou can also add a mask to remove the background I could select the Magic Wand Tool and select the background. click on the mask icon in the layers palette and then click on invert in the propertiesand you can see that does a pretty good job of removing the background.if we want, we can add a layer for the background and we can fill that with a grey color and that way we'll be able to see how good of a job we did on this mask. I think we need to refine the mask a little bit more. so I will click within the mask iconand choose "mask edge"and then I'll shift the mask edge a littleand turn on smart radius. and maybe smooth it just a little bitand that does a pretty good job of masking out the background. click on OKand now if I go ahead and turn off the background, you can see that the background is masked awaynow how do we save this and keep the background transparent?there are a couple of different ways we can do this. the first is, we can go to FileSave For Web and we can choose the preset of PNG 24this will give you a pretty good quality save for the web. make sure that transparency is checkedand then click save. the other way to do this is to go to File, Save As. some of these formats support transparency and some do notPhotoshop PSD, Photoshop PDF, PNG and TIFF are file formats that work really well for saving transparencythe JPEG format does not save image transparency. so don't select JPEG if you're trying to save a transparent background.let's go ahead and choose the TIFF file format and click saveand we'll get some more options here. go ahead and check LZW for image compression. that'll make the file size smallermake sure that save transparency is checked and then under layer compression choose to discard layers and save a copy if you don't need your layers typically, this is the best option for TIFF because saving a TIFF with layers makes the file size really largego ahead and click OK and that will save your file without a background if you found this information helpful, take a quick second to like this video and share it with your friends.and don't forget to click the subscribe button to get updates when I release new videos.
